Fatma Matriach

$11,111.00

White camphor (Mborea) hand-carved frame, photography

Fatma Matriarch is guided by Msomali, coastal guardian of wisdom and clarity. She embodies sacred balance, standing as protector, restorer, and cultural keeper. Crowned with the doum palm, she reflects matriarchy’s enduring role as giver and guardian of life.

The 30X40 inch frame is hand-carved in the Bajuni style—the original Swahili woodcarving tradition, from reclaimed white camphor tree logs and finished with a natural wood stain extracted from mangrove bark and polished with coconut oil. Every grain and mark within the wood is embraced, preserving its unique narrative of survival and renewal.

Created in Lamu, Kenya. 10% of proceeds directly fund reforestation efforts at Kaya Mtswakara, a sacred Duruma forest along the Kenyan coast.

Fatma Matriach is a visual offering, piece that doesn’t just hang on a wall, but holds presence. Ideal for collectors who value soulful design, cultural craftsmanship, and a deeper connection to the materials that shape our spaces.
